Mid-America Signs Dollar Tree & Payless ShoeSource for Chicago’s Marshfield Plaza

CHICAGO, IL – Marshfield Plaza, Chicago’s new 454,000 square-foot Target-anchored urban power center, acquired two new retailers, according to Richard Spinell, Principal of Oakbrook Terrace-based Mid-America Asset Management, Inc., the center’s exclusive leasing representative. Recently signed are Dollar Tree for a 10,406 square foot store opening in November 2009, and Payless ShoeSource for a 3,250 square foot store opening in September 2009. The center is expected to be fully open and operational by July 2009, although many tenants have been open for several months, including Target, which opened in October 2008.

Dollar Tree is a leading operator of discount variety stores selling everything for $1 or less. As of May 2, 2009, the publicly held Virginia-based company listed 3,667 stores operating in 48 states. Payless ShoeSource, a unit of Collective Brands, Inc. headquartered in Kansas, is the largest specialty family footwear retailer in the Western hemisphere. At the end of 2008, the publicly held company listed more than 4,500 stores in operation.

Mr. Spinell represented landlord Primestor Development in both leases along with Mid-America Principal Paul Bryant and Senior Leasing Representative Mary Beth Menelli. Representing both tenants was Kyle Mayberry of Zifkin Realty.

Marshfield Plaza is located on a 38-acre development at W.119th Street and S. Marshfield Avenue, adjacent to the I-57 Expressway, and is anchored by Target, Jewel-Osco, PETCO, Staples, Marshalls, and LA Fitness.
