Mid-America Signs 16,000 s.f. of Retail for Chicago’s Marshfield Plaza

CHICAGO (February 17, 2009) – Marshfield Plaza, South Chicago’s new 454,000 square-foot Target-anchored urban power center, has acquired five new retailers totaling 16,000 square feet of space, according to Richard Spinell, Principal of Oakbrook Terrace-based Mid-America Asset Management, Inc., the center’s exclusive representative. He adds that Phase II construction is on schedule, with the center expected to be fully running and occupied by summer 2009.

The most recently signed leases include Anna’s Linens for 8,500 square feet, with an estimated opening in June 2009, and Simply Fashions for 3,000 square feet, opening in May 2009. Also recently signed and scheduled to open this month are locally owned and operated Harold’s Chicken & Solomon’s Fish with 1,900 square feet, the independent salon Nail Works with 1,400 square feet, and a 1,200 square foot GameStop.

Mr. Spinell represented the landlord, Primestor Development of Chicago, in all of the new leases, along with Mid-America Principal Paul Bryant and Senior Leasing Representative Mary Beth Menelli. Jim Sakanich of CB Richard Ellis represented Anna’s Linens, Eli Kalman of Matanky Realty Group represented Simply Fashions, and Bill Paul of Xsite Real Estate, Inc. represented Gamestop. Harold’s Chicken represented itself.

Marshfield Plaza is located on a 38-acre development at W. 119th Street and S. Marshfield Avenue, adjacent to the I-57 Expressway. Phase II is anchored by PETCO, Jewel-Osco, Staples Marshalls, and LA Fitness and includes other specialty shops. Phase I, which is 164,688 square feet of the GLA, is comprised of Target, which opened in October 2008, and inline specialty retail.
